About Chuon Chuon
Chuon Chuon believes in reading to children. As often as you can. Reading ignites imaginations. Reading teaches lessons. Reading brings you closer to your child. We aim for the heart by telling stories that go over big with kids of all ages.
“Chuon Chuon” is Vietnamese for “dragonfly”. Dragonflies captivate us with their otherworldly form and flutter. With every story we tell, our hope is children will be surprised and delighted as if seeing a dragonfly for the first time.
Chuon Chuon’s first publication, Ya Herd!, is available now.
Ya Herd! is about diversity and friendship. The story tells how a girl zebra rapper, MC Zee, and a boy beat maker elephant, DJ Trunks, became friends. Zebras and elephants are herd animals who co-exist peacefully but keep to themselves. One day in the park, the zebra and elephant herds came very close to one another. That’s when MC Zee heard DJ Trunk’s music and DJ Trunks heard MC Zee’s rapping. MC Zee and DJ Trunks discovered their mutual love for music couldn’t keep them separated. From that day on, they were best friends and made music together.
About the Author
Emigrating from Vietnam and now living the American dream, Van Horgen is a father, Founder and CEO of Superhuman advertising agency, and author of Ya Herd! He’s a believer in the importance of reading to kids, and Ya Herd! is Van’s first published children’s book.
Van’s writing career began at the University of Minnesota where he majored in English Literature and submitted a chapbook of poems as his senior thesis. Van’s poem, ANGELS, appeared in REVIVAL: SPOKEN WORD FROM LOLLAPALOOZA 94.
About the Illustrator
Sandy Meirovitz is an award-winning designer at Superhuman advertising agency and illustrator of her debut children’s book,Ya Herd! Sandy graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Graphic Design.
While she has no kids of her own yet, Sandy knows the critical role reading books have on children’s development. Sandy adores children and one of her life dreams was to publish a children’s book. Dreams do come true.
